Ex-University of Waterloo student sentenced to 11 years in prison for gender-studies class stabbings

A former University of Waterloo, Ont., student who pleaded guilty toÂ stabbing several people inÂ aÂ gender-studies class in 2023 was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison. The judge said Geovanny Villalba-Aleman's actions were a "particularly grave hate crime," while the instructor wounded in the attack said "work to cultivate inclusive spaces of belonging continues."
