Although Miguel Fenrich has a Sudanese father, he didn’t know him and grew up with his white family members in rural Saskatchewan. Fenrich saw himself as white — just with brown skin. At 15, after a trial that grappled with discrimination in the legal system and province he lived in, he was forced to confront his desire to be like everyone else around him.
